The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has moved to issue a scam alert for an unregistered recruitment entity that is seeking to enlist construction workers to fill vacancies in the Cayman Islands.
The labour ministry is urging members of the public to consult with the ministry’s website to confirm the status of employment agencies before seeking to take up offers.
It said the agency in question, Housing Solution Limited, is not licensed to operate in Jamaica. The agency has been identified in advertisement on social media recruiting male and female construction workers to work in the Cayman Islands.
“The ministry is advising members of the public that the advertising entity, Housing Solution Limited, is not licensed to operate in Jamaica and is, therefore, not legally authorised to recruit workers. Members of the public are strongly advised to visit the ministry’s website at www.mlss.gov.jm to confirm the list of employment agencies which are licensed to operate in Jamaica before engaging with employment offers,” the labour ministry said in a statement on Thursday, September 14.
Members of the public are urged to contact the ministry’s employment agency unit for information via telephone at 876-676-5806 or 876-553-5457, or via email at [email protected].
The ministry also sought to reiterate its zero-tolerance approach to employment scamming and urged individuals or organisations operating without valid licences to desist from doing so, or take the necessary steps to regularise their operation.
Persons who are found in breach of the regulations governing employment agencies are subject to a fine of J$1 million or up to twelve months imprisonment.
