More than 180 students at Barracks Road Primary school received a major boost ahead of the new school year, thanks to the Scotia Foundation, which hosted a fun-filled Back-to-School Treat on the school grounds.

 The event, specifically geared towards the students entering Grade 6 in the 2025/26 academic year, provided school supplies, exciting activities, and financial guidance for families.

The treat was designed not only to prepare students for the classroom but also to create a memorable day of encouragement and support. Each child received a backpack, notebooks, and book vouchers to help offset back-to-school expenses. In addition, their parents and guardians benefited from financial advice from representatives of Scotiabank and Scotia Insurance.

The day’s activities featured inflatable climbing towers, a mechanical bull, and a bounce about, giving the students a chance to showcase their athleticism. They also enjoyed traditional favourites such as popcorn, snow cones, and hot dogs, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Yanique Forbes-Patrick, Head, Caribbean Corporate Affairs at Scotiabank, noted that the initiative reflects Scotia Foundation’s deep commitment to investing in education and community development.

“We are proud to support Barracks Road Primary as these students take an important step in their academic journey. By providing both resources and memorable experiences, we hope to inspire confidence and excitement as they enter their final year of primary school,” said Forbes-Patrick.

Principal of Barracks Road Primary, Maxine Coates-Brown, expressed her gratitude for the continued partnership.

“The Scotia Foundation’s support means a great deal to our school community. The children are motivated and well-equipped to start the year, and our parents feel encouraged knowing they are not alone on this journey,” she said.

This Back-to-School Treat is part of the Scotia Foundation’s ongoing mission to strengthen communities through education, youth development, and capacity-building initiatives across Jamaica. This year, the Scotia Foundation is supporting over 2,000 grade 6 students across 31 schools island-wide ahead of the new academic year.
