Sean Wallace, Red Stripe’s Head of Commerce, Mello Vibes promoter Omar Perrin, and Smirnoff Junior Brand Manager Lasana Wilson share a toast as Mello Vibes celebrates 25 years.

The 25th anniversary of Mello Vibes was celebrated in true Jamaican style on Saturday, January 31st, as a vibrant crowd gathered at Mas Camp to commemorate a significant milestone at one of Jamaica’s most iconic events.

Sponsored by Smirnoff, the evening was filled with high-energy music and engagement, along with a powerful celebratory moment honouring the event’s invaluable contribution to Jamaican culture and the dancehall music scene.

Mello Vibes has evolved immensely since its inception, with its audience growing alongside the event itself, becoming a space where both new and long-time patrons come together to relive the memories of classic Jamaican music. “What started as a gathering for university students has now expanded to include working professionals, some of whom now have children of their own but still come to enjoy the vibes alongside younger generations who appreciate the retro sounds,” says promoter Omar Perrin.

Smirnoff, a proud sponsor of Mello Vibes since the first-ever staging in 2001, has played an integral role in the event’s growth. “Twenty-five years is a massive achievement,” said Brand Manager Nadine Hylton. “Mello Vibes is not just an event; it’s a cultural institution where we all show up to create a genuine connection with the audience. Smirnoff shares the same energy, commitment, and cultural relevance as Mello Vibes, which is why our partnership has stood the test of time. This is also why we are proud to commemorate this milestone with the Mello team, honouring their incredible contribution to Jamaican culture and their dedication to delivering an unforgettable experience for generations of patrons.”

Over the years, Mello Vibes has consistently set milestones, including iconic performances such as Bounty Killer’s legendary appearance when the event returned in 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic. The event has also gained recognition for its innovative executions, such as the simultaneous staging of events at Mas Camp and Pier 1 in Montego Bay, which seamlessly connected the two locations and created a thrilling experience for audiences at both venues.

Looking forward, the future of Mello Vibes remains bright. “The genre that Mello Vibes was built on in 2001 is now considered retro, but it continues to evolve, and our audience still connects with it,” Perrin explained. The brand intends to expand to other locations, with successful past stints in St. Elizabeth, Montego Bay, and even New York. “We’ll continue to expand, bringing Mello Vibes to new audiences both locally and internationally,” said Perrin.
