Spaces Jamaica hosted its 18th anniversary brunch and charity auction on November 23, bringing together partners, clients, sponsors, artists, and members of the creative community for an intimate afternoon dedicated to reflection, resilience, and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.

This year’s anniversary moved beyond celebration and became a call to purpose. All proceeds from the event will support the Spaces hurricane relief drive, which focuses on helping affected families rebuild and resettle by providing mattresses, bedding, linens, and essential household supplies.

The event also marked the timely and emotional launch of the inaugural issue of ‘The Spaces Edit Magazine‘— a publication for us, by us.

Boldly declaring ‘THIS. IS. JAMAICA.’, the magazine captures the very essence of the island — its design spirit, its people, its culture, and its evolving aesthetic. The launch served as both a celebration of Jamaican creativity and a reminder of the nation’s strength, beauty, and resilience, especially in moments of hardship.

Carefully curated art by renowned digital creator Kianne Patrice and local art dealer Carla Newsam formed the centrepiece of the charity auction. Their pieces were presented alongside generous donations and experiences from ATL, Sandals, Flow, Peace-is-of Bianca, and The Face Place, among other partners who rallied behind the cause.

It was important for Spaces to source pieces from strong Jamaican brands that firmly believe in the mission. Each artwork and offering was selected not only for its craftsmanship and value, but for its alignment with Spaces’ commitment to restoring comfort, dignity, and hope for families rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa.

Standout pieces included rare works by the late Gene Pearson, which attracted significant attention and spirited bidding throughout the afternoon.

“The past few weeks have reminded us how deeply interconnected we are as a community,” said Janelle Pantry-Coke, founder and creative director of Spaces. “This milestone feels different. It’s a moment to pause, give thanks, and extend our hands to families rebuilding their lives. Rebuilding with Heart is not just an event — it’s a movement. And the launch of The Spaces Edit is our way of telling our own story: Jamaica’s story.”

Guests enjoyed a vibrant tropical brunch experience infused with live bidding, moments of quiet reflection, and meaningful conversations. Many pledged continued support to the relief effort, reinforcing the shared commitment to long-term recovery.

Funds raised will go directly toward:

  • Supplying mattresses, bedding, and linens to affected families
  • Providing essential household items to restore daily comfort
  • Supporting partner-led initiatives in the hardest-hit communities

Spaces will continue working closely with sponsors and community partners to identify families in need and coordinate distributions in the coming weeks.

“We are humbled by the generosity shown by our sponsors, partners, and guests,” Pantry-Coke added. “This is only the beginning of the work ahead — but together, we can help rebuild with compassion, purpose, and heart.”
