Today’s (November 8) match sprung to life in the last fifteen minutes with both sides having a few shots on goal.
Both Spurs and Manchester United will struggle to make the top four come the end of the season on this showing, both lacking firepower up front.
New signing Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the Red Devils. Unmarked, he scored a header that saw Spurs yet again at home having to chase the game.
In the first half, the Spurs looked perfunctory with only three touches in Manchester United’s half.
How the north Londoners miss Harry Kane and Son.
Mbeumo’s header was the only shot on goal by both sides in the first half.
Come the second half, Thomas Frank had some work to do. He brought on Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert to strengthen the Spurs’ defence. So far this season, Spurs have lacked creativity, and that was the case again today.
Xavi Simons was poor again today and was hooked, replaced by Tel in the 79th minute. The move paid off with Tel equalising five minutes later, swivelling to score a fine goal that deflected on its way past the Manchester United keeper.
It looked like Spurs had clawed a point from what looked like another defeat at home before disgruntled fans.
But hang on a minute, in extra time, the Brazilian Richarlison flicked a header from an Odobert shot to turn the game on its head with Spurs on their way to picking up all three points and the number 2 spot on the EPL table.
At 2-1, Spurs were jubilant with Richarlison taking off his shirt and beating his bare chest in triumph.
The game is about glory.
In the last minute of extra time, Spurs were punished for not picking up Mathijs de Ligt on the far post, who headed Manchester United’s equaliser from a corner.
Last mont,h there were howls for Ruben Amorim to be sacked as Head Coach of Manchester United. Now he has gone five games unbeate,n and Manchester United are in the top four of the table.
Spurs have been woeful at home, winning just three of their last 20 home matches in the EPL, but still sit third in the table.
