A St Ann-based recording artiste has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition following the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in Ocho Rios on Tuesday, August 26.

The accused has been identified as 31-year-old Kimar Herman, otherwise called ‘Cray Fully’, of Mammee Bay, St Ann’s Bay.

According to reports from the Ocho Rios police, at about 7:25 pm, a team of lawmen was conducting patrols along Middle Street when they observed Herman carrying a bag across his chest, accompanied by another man. The men were accosted and searched.

During the search, officers discovered a firearm and three .380 rounds of ammunition inside Herman’s bag. The weapon and ammunition were seized, and Herman was taken into custody. He was later charged following a formal interview.

Police say his court date is being arranged.

The other man who was with Herman at the time was questioned and released.

The Ocho Rios police have renewed their appeal for residents to assist in the fight against illegal firearms by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station, Crime Stop at 311, or the JCF tip line at 811.

This latest arrest comes as law enforcement continues intensified operations across St Ann and other parishes, targeting illegal weapons and organised crime in an effort to curb gun-related violence.
