Defending men’s 400m Olympic champion Steven Gardiner sent shockwaves across The Bahamas as he pulled out of Heat 4 on Sunday (August 4) at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

It is the second major withdrawal today after Jamaica’s 200m national champion Shericka Jackson did not turn up at the starting blocks for the women’s qualifying heats.

Gardiner joins Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who have withdrawn since yesterday, with injury concerns growing among fans for elite Caribbean athletes at the Olympics.
