Investigators from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) say the woman who appeared to be abusing a female child in a viral video on social media is now in police custody.

The woman, who was not identified, is being questioned concerning the incident.

In the viral video, the woman is seen kicking and trampling over a girl on the floor, inflicting blows to her head and upper body multiple times. The video went viral on social media, prompting the police to issue an appeal for the suspected abuser to turn herself in.

The police are requesting that anyone with information that can assist with their investigation should contact CISOCA at 876-926-4079, Crime Stop at 311, the 119 police emergency number, or the nearest police station.

In December last year, a similar incident was reported, this time involving a 14-year-old girl who was ganged and beaten by a group of women and a teenage boy in Denbigh, Clarendon. The teenager was beaten unconscious and taken to the hospital for treatment. It was reported that she was in stable condition.

The women and their co-accused were all arrested and charged for their role the incident. They were granted bail and are scheduled to reappear before the court on March 26.

Both incidents have led to a public outcry for the protection of the nation’s children.
