Jamaica’s swimmer Keanan Dols finished third in Heat One of the men’s 200 metres butterfly and failed to advance to the semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Monday (July 26).
Dols was timed in 2:00.25 minutes with Ayman Kelzi of Syria winning the heat in 1:59.57 minutes, the same time as Matin Balsini of Iran, who placed second.
Dols, who is from Westmoreland, but studies at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, finished 34th overall. He needed to finish with a time in the top 16 to advance to the semi-finals.
He was competitive in the early stages but faded in the middle of the event before rallying towards the end for his third position.
He is scheduled to swim again on Wednesday in the men’s 200m individual medley, in which he is the national record holder.
