Emma Raducanu is back in the spotlight, storming into the semi finals of the Transylvania Open with a 6-0 6-4 win over Poland’s Maja Chwalinska.
The British number one raced through the first set in just 25 minutes without dropping a game, and although Chwalinska offered more resistance in the second, Raducanu pulled away at 3-3 to seal the victory.
This is only the fourth time Raducanu has reached a semi final since her stunning 2021 US Open triumph. It’s also her first deep run since splitting with coach Francis Roig after an early exit at the Australian Open, and her first semi final since July’s Washington Open. Raducanu now faces Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova, who stunned Chinese fourth seed Wang Xinyu to reach her first WTA semi final. A win would send Raducanu to her first final since her breakthrough in New York.
