Jamaica’s National Stadium track surface will be changed from blue to green and will depict the colours of the national flag as sections will have yellow and black, Our Today understands.
The blue track was laid in 2001 and was resurfaced in 2014 by Regupol, and maintenance work was done in 2021.
However, another German track manufacturer, Rekortan, replaced Regupol and was given the green light to resurface the track at a cost of US$350,000.
Alarms were raised as to the quality of the surface after the Michael Johnson-led Grand Slam Track selected Kingston as one of four cities to host the inaugural event from April 4-6, 2025.
The popular Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships is set for March 25-29, and work began immediately after the completion of the Gibson McCook Relays on February 23.
In a fitting display, when the eyes of the world are on Jamaica, the running track will depict the colours of the National Flag in black, gold, and green.

Based on images emerging, the 400m running track will be green, with the baton exchange zones in yellow, and the areas behind the goals where the discus, high jump, javelin and pole vault take place will be black, with the run-up areas in yellow.
