Organisers of Throp-X Investment Conference have postponed this year’s staging to provide assistance to residents in Westmoreland following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.
Since it began three years ago, Throp-X has been held in November in Negril, Westmoreland. However, plans to host the conference in that parish this year was upended when Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, damaging and even destroying homes, businesses and infrastructure.
Organisers have since postponed the conference to May 2026.
With messages pouring in from attendees insistent on coming to Jamaica to help, the Throp-X community saw the need to serve, connect, and support individuals impacted by the hurricane. Instead of cancelling the week completely, Throp-X has increased its focus on a Jamaica Relief Edition for the loyal attendees who showed up.

For the Throp-X community, the aim was twofold: give participants a meaningful opportunity to contribute to relief efforts and ensure they still received value through community engagement, education, and shared purpose.
Across three days, the Relief Edition included a coordinated service mission to Petersville, a Throp-X Mini Panel Day at Travellers Beach Resort, and a shortened real estate tour showcasing new developments in Negril.
Pre-Service Day: Packing and organising care packages
The relief efforts began the day before the official day of service. A group of Throp-X attendees volunteered their time to help sort, pack, and organise individualised care packages. Items included food staples, water, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, building supplies and essentials for families who had lost nearly everything.
Volunteers created an assembly-line operation at Travellers Beach Resort, ensuring that every package was thoughtfully packed and that everything was organized for efficient distribution the next morning. The sense of teamwork and shared purpose set the tone for the days ahead.

Day One: Service mission to Petersville
The next morning, volunteers loaded vehicles with the care packages and supplies and made the drive from Negril to Petersville – one of the communities most severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa, with many residents still without roofs or access to basic necessities.
The Throp-X team delivered care packages directly to families throughout the community. For many residents, this was the first major assistance they had received since the storm.
“This is what our platform is about: people helping people,” said Winthrope Wellington, founder of Throp-X.
“Even when the conference couldn’t happen as originally planned, the community showed up in full force.”
Day Two: Throp-X Mini Panel Day
The second day of the Relief Edition brought attendees together at Travellers Beach Resort for discussions focused on Jamaica’s future and the country’s path to rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa. The sessions moved through key themes including real estate, construction, planning, community recovery, and the legal frameworks guiding development today.
A central message echoed throughout the day: Jamaica is open for business. Speakers emphasised that investment will play a critical role in the nation’s recovery, and that rebuilding stronger and more resilient communities requires active participation from developers, diaspora investors, and professionals across the sector. The discussions also highlighted emerging opportunities, the urgent need for new housing inventory, and the importance of building with modern, climate-resilient standards.

Attendees also engaged with local leaders and technical experts who provided insight into recovery efforts on the ground, sustainable planning approaches, and the collaborative role communities can play in Jamaica’s long-term growth.
A networking lunch allowed participants to connect directly with speakers and one another, reinforcing the spirit of partnership that defines Throp-X. Although condensed, the Mini Panel Day delivered clarity, direction, and renewed confidence that Jamaica’s rebuild will be driven by strong ideas, quality development, and a committed community of investors.
Day Three: Mini-real estate tour showcases exclusive Throp-X opportunities in Negril
The real estate tour was originally designed to span two full days, but in this Relief Edition format, attendees experienced a condensed version that still delivered tremendous value. The tour highlighted two private Throp-X investment opportunities in Negril that cannot be found anywhere else.
The first stop was a long-shuttered hotel property located in Negril. Although the building is in a run-down condition, it represents a strong hotel-to-condo conversion opportunity. Attendees walked the site, evaluated the potential for redevelopment, and discussed how a non-performing coastal asset could be transformed into a desirable residential property.

The second stop featured an operating hotel in Negril that was recently acquired by a group of investors. Portions of this functioning property are now being converted into condos, offering a unique hybrid model that blends ongoing hotel operations with residential investment potential. As with the first project, this was a private Throp-X exclusive, and attendees received early access to pre-market pricing and project information.
Even in its shortened format, the tour underscored the strength and future potential of the Negril real estate market. It reinforced that, even after Hurricane Melissa, carefully vetted opportunities continue to emerge and that Throp-X attendees benefit from access not available anywhere else.
A community that shows up
The Throp-X Jamaica Relief Edition was created exclusively for existing ticket holders who still made the journey to Jamaica or joined virtually. Every attendee who participated retains a fully valid ticket for either Throp-X May 2026 or Throp-X November 2026.

“The past few weeks have been heavy for so many families in Westmoreland and St Elizabeth. But this reminded me exactly what Throp-X is about: people, ideas, and opportunities coming together to move Jamaica forward. When things get difficult, this community shows up,” Wellington shared.
Throp-X will return with its full conference in May 2026, followed by another edition in November 2026.
