
Jamaican sprinter and World Athletics Champion for the under 20 100m, Tina Clayton has won the Athletics Weekly’s ‘International Female Junior Athlete of the Year award’.
The announcement was made today (December 8) on the Athletics Weekly Twitter account. The online publication features sports news, coaching advice and products for all aspects of track and field.
Each year, readers are asked to select who they wish to see win the award from a shortlist of international athletes.
Clayton was shortlisted for the award along with fellow Jamaican athlete Kerrica Hill. But, it was the Edwin Allen star who came out on top.

The Clarendon sprinter was recognized for her outstanding performance this athletic season, which saw her taking home the title of World under 20 100m champion, with a time of 10.95 seconds that is also a championship record.
Clayton was also apart of the Jamaican 4 x100m female relay team that won gold at the World Championships, shattering the previous world record with a time of 42.56 seconds.
She is also maintained Jamaica’s dominance at the CARIFTA games, walking away with the gold medal for both the 100m and 4 X 100m.
Also nominated for the award was Serbia’s Karmen Bruus and Adriana Vilagoš, Saga Vanninen from Finland and, Elina Tzengko from Greece .
