Leandro Trossard scored twice as Belgium produced their best performance of the tournament, beating New Zealand 5-1 to secure a place in the World Cup knockout stage.
With both teams needing a win, Belgium took control from the opening whistle. Trossard broke the deadlock after capitalising on a loose ball from a Kevin De Bruyne corner before adding his second 5 minutes after halftime.
De Bruyne then got on the scoresheet himself with a superb long range strike to make it 3-0. New Zealand briefly responded through Elijah Just, but Belgium hit back almost immediately as substitute Romelu Lukaku headed home less than a minute after coming on.
Another substitute, Alexis Saelemaekers, added a fifth in stoppage time to complete an impressive victory.
Belgium finished top of Group G on goal difference and now advance to the round of 32. New Zealand’s World Cup campaign ends with one point from three matches.
