Following his return to the Jamaican Senior football team, Tyreek Magee revealed that a change in mentality, resulting from some soul-searching moments, has taken him to another level and back into the Reggae Boyz squad.
The former Jamaica College Manning Cup star who made his senior Jamaican debut in 2019 as a 19-year-old, has been called up by new coach Steve McClaren, having last represented the country in 2022.
The English man said he wanted a creative playmaker who could change the game and Magee was recommended.
“It’s just exciting because as I said before I haven’t been here for a while now and was really looking forward to it. I thought I was doing well and just like when I got a car, I was really excited,” said Magee.
The former Harbour View player now at Colorado Spring Switchbacks FC in the USL Championship since May 2023, and in 13 games so far, he has scored three goals with an assist but more remarkably his work rate has improved.

“I feel like it’s more mental. Done a lot of self-searching and stuff like that and just thinking to myself what and what I want from football, and I feel it’s been helping me so far,” he revealed.
The 25-year-old Magee arrived in Colorado Springs having most recently played for Belgian top-flight club KAS Eupen after spending four years.
“The travelling is different you have to fly to play games while in the US you can just go on a bus and like 30 minutes to an hour here you are playing. In the US it’s more running while in Belgium it was more on the ball. I am really enjoying my football in the US at the moment,” Magee pointed out.
The 5 ft 11 inch predominantly left-footed player, has nine caps for Jamaica. He is one of the rare skilful ball players to emerge from Jamaica in recent times and with the Reggae Boyz crying out for a true number 10, Magee has been given a lifeline to stake a claim and cement his position in the team.
“I am definitely happy to be back in the squad. It’s been a while now, so I am looking forward to it,” he reiterated.

Jamaica will play Nicaragua on October 10 before hosting Honduras four days later inside the National Stadium in two crucial CONCACAF Nations League games and Magee is raring to go.
“Definitely, I need to affect the games as much as possible like whatever minutes I get, I need to make the most of it. So, I am really looking forward to the two games,” he explained.
Magee gets a chance to play alongside his good friend Norman Campbell and former Jamaica College star who has made good his recall to the Reggae Boyz set up last month with some outstanding displays.
“Yeah, it’s something that doesn’t really happen that much, so I want to embrace it. It’s like we grow up in the same community, so I am definitely looking forward to it to playing with him for the country,” said Magee.
