Sutherland clinical burnout and healthcare leadership

The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is announcing that Dr Andrea Sutherland, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, will be a featured presenter at the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) Symposium 2026, where she will deliver a presentation on the final day of the symposium held at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Dr Sutherland will present “Health Administration and Clinical Burnout: The Mediating Role of Effective Leadership” during a session that will explore The Human Element: Mental Wellness, Leadership, and Connection in the Digital Age. This is a segment dedicated to highlighting strategies that support the wellbeing of healthcare professionals and strengthen health systems.

Hosted by the Medical Association of Jamaica in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the six-day symposium brings together leading healthcare practitioners, researchers, educators and policymakers to examine emerging trends in artificial intelligence, public health, clinical innovation and healthcare delivery. The event’s 2026 theme, “AI in Clinical Practice and Public Health,” underscores the growing importance of innovation and leadership in transforming healthcare systems.

Dr Sutherland’s participation highlights UCC’s continued commitment to advancing research, leadership development and professional education within Jamaica’s healthcare sector. Her presentation will examine how effective leadership practices can help mitigate clinical burnout, improve organisational performance and foster healthier workplace cultures in healthcare institutions.

UCC students will also participate in the symposium, providing an opportunity to showcase the University’s academic excellence and its contribution to the development of future healthcare and business leaders.
