

There has been an uptick in the annualised inflation across Europe in January, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
The Euro Area’s annual inflation rate has increased slightly to 2.5% in January 2025, up from 2.4% in December. A year ago, the rate was 2.8%.
For the European Union (EU) the annual inflation rose to 2.8% in January 2025, up from 2.7% in December 2024. A year earlier, the rate was 3.1%.
Denmark had the lowest yearly rates (1.4%), followed by Italy (1.4%), Finland and Ireland (all 1.7%). The highest annual rates were found in Hungary (5.7%), Romania (5.3%), and Croatia (5.0%).
Compared to December 2024, annual inflation declined in eight Member States, held stable in four, and increased in 15.
In January 2025, services contributed the most to the annual Euro Area inflation rate (+1.77 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (+0.45 pp), energy (+0.18 pp) and non-energy industrial goods (+0.12 pp).
