US monthly wholesale inventories up 0.6% to $682.5 billion in February

The US Census Bureau is reporting a slight improvement in the total merchant wholesaler inventories, which is up to US$682.5 billion at the end of February.

This represents a 0.6 per cent improvement over the previous month in January. This figure excludes manufacturers’ sales branches and offices.

According to the US Census Bureau, America’s primary data collections agency, total inventories increased by per cent from the updated February 2020 mark.

“The per cent improvement from January 2021 to February 2021 was changed from an advance forecast of up 0.5 per cent to up 0.6 per cent.,” the US Census Bureau reports.

Revenue data on merchant wholesalers

Revenues from merchant wholesalers’ for the month of February amounted to US$538.3 billion, which is down by 0.8 per cent from the revised January amount. However, the US Census Bureau says this figure is up by 6.4 per cent from the revised February 2020 level.

The per cent improvement from December 2020 to January 2021 was changed from a tentative estimate of 4.9 per cent to 4.4 per cent. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the American data collection agency says the inventories/sales ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices was down to 1.27 in February 2021.

The ratio in February 2020 was 1.32.
