Veteran horse owner and breeder Howard Hamilton’s book has been recommended to sports analysts by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, vice-chancellor, The University of the West Indies.
My Journey With Thoroughbreds tells the history of thoroughbred racing in Jamaica, providing the unique perspective of Hamilton, a storied expert.
“This is an excellent history and assessment of horse raising and racing in Jamaica by one of its leading practitioners and raconteurs. Sports analysts are urged to get into these pages and experience the ride of a lifetime,” said Beckles.
With over sixty years of service to the local horse racing industry, Hamilton has been involved in many aspects of the sport. He is a former president of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and is a former champion owner and a noted horse breeder.
Two of his highly talented horses, “A King is Born” and “Distinctly Irish”, won the Derby two successive years: 2003 and 2004, respectively.
