In light of the Government’s decision to resume face-to-face classes for students sitting exit examinations, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has indicated that the vaccination of teachers who will instruct these students will commence tomorrow (May 6).
Speaking during Tuesday (May 4) evening’s sitting of the House of Representatives, Holness said: “Systems are in place for the teachers involved in face-to-face instruction to be vaccinated as part of the infection prevention and control measures…(and) this will commence on May 6, 2021.”
To date, approximately 7,500 teachers have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a remaining 16,000 who will lead face-to-face instruction for exit exam students will become eligible for their jab starting on Thursday.

According to the prime minister, the vaccination of these teachers will facilitate “a critical core that could carry (out) the revision classes and the face to face classes needed” to adequately prepare students to sit their examinations.
In addition to the vaccination of teachers, other infection prevention and control measures include “provisions through regional offices for the disbursements of grants for basic equipment and materials needed for sanitisation purposes and this will include… the procurement and provision of masks for students who don’t have”.
As well as, “a whole day rotation approach based on resources available that would be space and staffing at school…(which) means that only a subset of each cohort of students will be at school each day while others work remotely”.
