In the spirit of unity and rebuilding, VM Investments Limited, alongside the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), Massy Group, and Ther-A-Pedic Caribbean Company, have joined forces to launch the Rebuild & Restore initiative.

The initiative is a nationwide effort to help hurricane-impacted communities regain comfort, dignity, and stability as they move forward. For many families, recovery isn’t just about rebuilding structures; it’s about restoring a sense of home.

Through this initiative, essential items including beds, mattresses, and household appliances will be placed directly into the hands of those who need them most, from children’s homes to healthcare facilities across the island. This initiative goes beyond a one-time donation but represents a sustained commitment to communities across Jamaica.

Two-year programmme of work

Over four quarters, Rebuild & Restore will deliver support where it’s needed most, beginning in St. James and extending to St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and Trelawny. With an estimated 350 individuals served daily at participating health centres, combined with ongoing support to children’s homes and vulnerable households, the initiative is projected to reach over 130,000 Jamaicans over its four phases, delivering sustained support to communities across the island.

The first phase will see support extended to a health centre and a children’s home in St. James, as part of ongoing efforts to restore comfort and dignity to those most in need. As the lead sponsor and coordinating entity, VMIL is driving the initiative under its ESG framework with support from the VM Group’s social impact and community engagement arm, VM Foundation.

Through the Rebuild & Restore initiative, VM Investments and its partners are not only providing support, but they are also helping communities rebuild with dignity, reinforcing the power of partnership, and reminding Jamaicans that recovery is stronger when we stand together.

Partnering entities anticipate impact

Speaking on the initiative, VM Investments chief executive Rezworth Burchenson explained that the programme reflects the company’s commitment to delivering lasting impact noting that through the Rebuild & Restore Initiative, VM Group “is taking a sustained approach to supporting communities, because for us, it’s not just about rebuilding spaces, it’s about helping people feel at home again.”

The PSOJ has underscored the importance of collaboration in national recovery efforts with its executive director, Sacha Vaccianna-Riley, commenting, “At the PSOJ, we are deeply encouraged to see corporate Jamaica step forward in a way that prioritises people, communities, and country alongside commercial success”.

“We commend and are proud to partner with VM Investments Limited, Massy Group and Ther-A-Pedic Caribbean in an initiative that demonstrates a genuine commitment to rebuilding lives and strengthening Jamaica’s social fabric. This is the kind of purposeful partnership that defines true private sector leadership,” she added.

Massy Group, owners of the Gas Pro and IGL brands and a key partner in the initiative, emphasised its commitment to consistent support. Chief commercial officer, Rohan Ambersley, says, “Massy Gas Products is proud to collaborate with VM Investments Limited in the Hurricane Melissa initiative, demonstrating our shared commitment to community resilience. This partnership strengthens our ability to support affected communities, ensuring timely relief and recovery in this time of crisis.”

Ther-A-Pedic Caribbean Company, the initiative’s key supplier partner, reinforced the importance of practical, people-focused support throughout the recovery period.

For Therapedic Caribbean director of sales and marketing, Aswad Morgan, “like many Jamaicans, we felt the impact of Hurricane Melissa. As communities rebuild, we recognise that recovery is not just about structures, but about people. Through our partnership with VMIL, we are able to support healthcare facilities, children’s homes, and families in restoring comfort and stability, because in times like these, a place to rest and a sense of home matter more than ever.”
