Former West Indies opener Wavell Hinds was returned as President of the Kensington Cricket Club during its recent AGM where former Cricket West Indies President Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron was among six persons inducted as Life Members.
Hinds’ executive includes Radcliffe Daley, First Vice President; David Bernard Jr, Second Vice President; Gautam Kumaraswamy, Treasurer; Marlon Kennedy, Assistant Treasurer; Carole Beckford, Honorary Secretary; Wayne Lewis, Assistant Secretary, and Brian Blair, Club Captain.
Other members of the executive are Delbert Gayle, Jamie Hay, Ryan Francis and Norman Joiles.
In acknowledging his return to office, Hinds said “cricket in Jamaica has to restart its growth from the communities and we at Kensington take this task seriously. We are engaging our community and its environs and other cricket clubs and parish associations to ensure the legacy of cricket is protected.”
Hinds was also proud of the elite program the club hosted with six players in key areas of the game which has gone over 20 weeks. That, he said, “proved to be of extreme value to the players involved. We continue to encourage the players, all of whom are engaged in school, college or work.”
Cameron was inducted as Life Member along with David Bernard Sr, Wayne Lewis, Balfour Patrick Patterson, Robert Turner, and Robert Haynes. Each man was recognized for 30-plus years’ service to the club on and off the field.
Schoolboy of the year awards for 2019 and 2020 were awarded to Wolmer’s sixth former Chemar Phillips, who will be pursuing further studies at the Florida International University this fall. Anthony Dacres, who is in 6th form at Excelsior High was the other recipient.
Both youngsters were recognized for outstanding performances in the classroom and on the field.
