The San Antonio Spurs are heading into the playoffs with renewed hope, powered by the standout play of Victor Wembanyama, but a recent injury has cast a shadow over their momentum.

Wembanyama, who has been central to the team’s return to postseason contention, is enjoying a career-best season, averaging 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while once again leading the league in blocks. However, a rib contusion suffered during Monday’s game has raised concerns about his availability heading into the playoffs.

The injury came after an accidental collision with Paul George of the Philadelphia 76ers, leaving the 7 foot 4 star in visible discomfort and forcing him out of the game early.

There is also added pressure off the court, as Wembanyama’s chances of landing MVP honors hang in the balance. NBA rules require players to appear in at least 65 games to qualify for major awards, and he currently sits just below that threshold.

Despite the setback, the Spurs remain in a strong position near the top of the standings, with a few games left to close out the regular season before shifting focus to what they hope will be a deep playoff run.
