A total of nine West Indies players have now tested positive for COVID-19, putting the remainder of the white-ball tour of Pakistan at risk. Sources indicate that today’s final T20I match is still on, however, the ODIs could face cancellation.

This development came after players Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Justin Greaves as well as Assistant Coach Roddy Estwick and team physician Dr Akshai Mansingh all returned positive results after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted PCR tests on Wednesday.

With Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase and Sheldon Cottrell, who tested positive prior to the first T20 match on December 13, it means that eight members of the touring party are now in isolation. All members of the touring party have been vaccinated.

Following additional PCR tests Thursday morning (in Pakistan) when no additional cases were identified, officials from the PCB and West Indies agreed to play the final ODI today but would make a later determination on whether they would go ahead with the ODIs.

Sources indicate that the virus might have been contracted while the team was on their way to Pakistan. However, there has been no confirmation that that is what occurred.

The West Indies trail 0-2 in the T20 series having lost the first match on December 13 by 63 runs and the second on December 14, by nine runs.
