The West Indies Men’s Cricket Team opened their T20 World Cup campaign defeating Scotland by 35 runs on Saturday at Eden Gardens in India.

Sent in to bat first, captain Shai Hope and Brandon King took a measured approach at the top, steadily building a 54-run opening stand and keeping their wickets intact through the powerplay. The platform was set, and once Hope departed, the innings shifted into a higher gear.

Shimron Hetmyer wasted no time announcing himself. The left-hander lit up the ground alongside Rovman Powell, the pair racing to 81 runs in just 37 balls and swinging momentum firmly in the West Indies’ favour. Hetmyer was the star of the show, blasting 64 from 36 deliveries with six towering sixes and two boundaries, while Powell chipped in with a lively 24.

Sherfane Rutherford added late urgency with a rapid 26, pushing the total to a challenging 184.
