Wolmer’s Boys and Eltham High are the only two schools remaining in the ISSA Digicel Manning Cup with perfect records while Jamaica College heads the goal-scoring chart ahead of Kingston College.

The Jerome Waite-coached Wolmer’s Boys had rattled up six wins from six matches and lead Zone E with maximum 18 points. The Heroes Circle-based school scored 29 goals while conceding four times.

Tivoli Gardens lie second in the group with 15 points just ahead of St Jago High on 12 points in what is turning out to be a desperate battle as only two teams from each zone and the best two third-placed teams from all zones advance to the second round.

Meanwhile, Spanish Town-based Eltham High are quietly getting the job done, winning all five games including a 2-0 win over last season’s beaten finalist Hydel High. Eltham sit atop Zone A on 15 points, netting 27 goals and have yet to concede a goal. They are six points clear of Hydel High on nine points but from four games.

St George’s College is the second school not to concede a goal, winning five of their six games in Zone G while scoring 29 times. They are on top with 16 points ahead of St Catherine High on 13 points.

Former champion Jamaica College (JC) are the most prolific team banging in 49 goals from just five games while giving up two goals in a 2-2 draw with Excelsior High. JC lead Zone F with 13 points three ahead of Excelsior High on 10 with Bridgeport High sitting in third spot with six points.

One hundred and nine games have been played up to Thursday. October 3 and 1081 goals have been scored at a staggering average of 9.92 per match. Zone B led by defending champions Mona High has scored the most goals of 103. Zone C is the next most prolific with 92 goals of which Kingston College netted 41 times.

There are 165 yellow cards issued across the zones from 109 matches, 35 of which came from Zone D courtesy of 10 each to Vauxhall High and Haile Selassie High which are the most for any school. Just nine red cards were issued and again Zone D had six of them. Haile Selassie picked up two red cards from their six matches. St Andrew Technical High Schools led Zone D with 16 points ahead of Calabar High on 13 points and both look a safe bet to advance to the second round.

Zone G has registered the least number of goals, 53, of which leaders St George’s College have scored 29 times.
