The Wray & Nephew Fight Nights Series kicked off with a bang as Jermaine “Breezy” Richards showcased his boxing prowess in a dominant performance against American Stephen Kirnon. The event,

held at the Cling Cling Oval on Olympic Way in Kingston, drew a packed crowd that eagerly witnessed an evening of thrilling boxing action.

The main event saw Jamaican heavyweight boxer Jermaine “Breezy” Richards take on the relatively unknown Stephen Kirnon. Richards approached the opening round cautiously, unfamiliar with his opponent’s style. However, after sizing him up in the initial minutes, Richards found his rhythm and unleashed a barrage of heavy body shots that left Kirnon reeling.

Kirnon struggled to withstand Richards’ power, and though he attempted a comeback in the second round, the fight concluded in the third round when Kirnon’s corner threw in the towel, unable to endure another punishing onslaught from Richards.

Reflecting on his performance, Richards described the first round as a “welcome” to Jamaica, emphasising his desire to showcase the country’s boxing talent. He attributed his success partly to his preparation in Colombia, which allowed him to train rigorously and hone his skills away from Jamaica’s limited infrastructure.

Executing a well-thought-out strategy, Richards had targeted Kirnon’s body from the beginning. He aimed to finish the fight without inflicting excessive damage to his opponent’s face or head. With this victory, Richards improved his professional record to an impressive 3-0, setting the stage for an exciting eight months ahead in the Wray and Nephew Fight Series.

In another professional fight on the card, welterweight Juzier “Iron Man” Heron emerged victorious over Darron “Avatar” Weir, further fueling the crowd’s enthusiasm. Additionally, the amateur bouts showcased some promising talent, with Oshawn Murphy defeating Vinroy Coke, Kevon McKenzie triumphing over Chevon Gordon, Ackeem Francis besting Kirk Clarke, David Barnaby prevailing against Jamari Frazer, and Calvin Mignott securing a victory over Joshua.

Jermaine “Breezy” Richards will be back in action in six weeks when the series resumes at Denham Town, promising more thrilling moments and intense matchups.
