While there is never a special season to celebrate the role that fathers play in the lives of their children, Jah Love Surround Me singjay Zamunda and fast-rising producer and musician Lamont ‘Monty’ Savory have collaborated to pay tribute to all men who are standing up to their responsibilities.

Daddy You was released today (June 16) by the duo who both have a unique take on fatherhood.

For Zamunda, whose real name is Christopher Gayle, his father Girvan Gayle was integral in his upbringing and raised him alone from the tender age of three.

The track will be available on all digital platforms before Father’s Day, which is being observed globally on Sunday, June 20.

Working with Savory for the first time in a role as producer, Zamunda said the collaboration and process of creating Daddy You happened “naturally”.

Now making progressive moves in the music production business aside from his career as a masterful reggae guitarist, Savory said “finding the right voice to deliver this song was important because I needed someone who would be authentic in delivering the message in an authentic fashion”.

Though he didn’t have a close relationship with his own father, in penning the lyrics, Savory said he took inspiration from personal ambitions and commitment as a father himself.

Meanwhile, Zamunda, who also infused his personal experiences as a child in the lyrics, shared that his father was ‘near tears’ when he heard the track demo.

“I have a lot of respect for my father. He really held it down for us as children, even though it wasn’t always easy for him,” said Gayle, who grew up in Seville Heights, St Ann.

For both Savory and Gayle the song is a fitting tribute to a number of Jamaican fathers who are sticking by their children despite societal pressures.

“As fathers we are responsible for the happiness and the wellbeing of the youth and so once you are doing that, you deserve all the honour and respect,” Zamunda said in closing.
