The Jamaica Golf Association has announced that Zandre Roye and Oshae Haye will represent Jamaica at the 11th staging of the Latin America Amateur Golf Championship (LAAC) at the Lima Golf Club in Peru from January 15-18.
Both golfers have represented Jamaica at the championship previously and will be relying on that experience as well as their preparation to put on a good show this year.
This will be Roye’s third appearance having done so in 2024 and 2025 while it will be Haye’s second. He was on the Jamaican ticket in 2024 along with Roye.
They will first be challenged to make the cut after the first two days and then see where they end on the leaderboard at the close of the four-day championship. Jamaica’s best placement at the championship is 24th by Ian Facey back in 2015.
There are twenty-eight (28) countries and over one hundred (100) golfers in the championship this year. The list includes competitors from Barbados, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago who the Jamaicans are familiar with, having competed against them in the regional/Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship. Other countries include host Peru, Argentina and Mexico who have all had very good results at the championship.
The LAAC was founded by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA in 2014. It was established to further develop amateur golf in South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The event annually moves to top courses throughout Latin America and showcases the sport’s rising talent in the region. Apart from bragging rights, the champion will receive a coveted invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open.
