When many people think about fragrances, they often associate them with well-established and wealthy individuals such as Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, and the brand Chanel.

However, 20-year-old model, makeup artiste, GoKart racer and runway etiquette coach, Suana Callum is making her mark, being one of the youngest Jamaicans to launch her very own fragrance ‘Influitive’.

The fragrance was launched in November of last year, through a partnership with Prince D’ Bruce Perfumery, the only local perfumery of its kind that offers individuals to create their own fragrances and products by actively participating in the mixing process.

“It was launched on November 20, through a partnership with Prince D’ Bruce. He was the one who saw the potential in me and decided that he was going to give me a chance to create my own brand,” she explained.

Three adjectives the model used to describe the fragrance were bold, risque and smooth. The fragrance combines a variety of Jamaican notes such as mint, cinnamon, vanilla, mandarin, amber, spicy notes and patchouli.

“The reason I decided to launch my own fragrance is that I’m Jamaican- and being from Jamaica, I wanted to understand the direction to represent the brand Jamaica. I also wanted to use notes that are famous in our Jamaican baking and cooking. I wanted a relationship with the gourmet itself. It took me back to my childhood, smelling my grandmas’ baking-so I wanted to re-establish my emotions,” she said.

She explained that the fragrance is an embodiment of her journey being an influencer.

The scent is an embodiment of my journey, it’s called influitive, being an influencer, you want to basically describe yourself but you don’t want it to be too feminine and you don’t want it to be too masculine, so I think the name suits it well,” she added.

Edwin Bruce, entrepreneur and owner of Prince D’ Bruce Perfumery said Callum’s drive and commitment are what propelled him to partner with her.

“As it relates to working with her, it was really a fun experience. She is a young lady that is very focused. True to what she is doing. Usually, you do a grand development for persons who are of celebrity status, but for her, I felt like the empowerment was something that was already playing forward even before it came to fruition,” he said.
