Vaccination priority groupings have now been extended to include persons age 60 years and older, staff members from the Department of Correctional Services, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Jamaica Customs, tourism workers, teachers, and other employees of educational institutions, says Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton.

In a press release dated today (April 8) the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced that as of 10:00am this morning, persons within the aforementioned priority grouping may begin scheduling their vaccination appointments.

According to Tufton, the extension of the priority grouping is owing to the fact that “we are set to receive 75,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine later this afternoon (from the African Medical Support Platform)”.

Adding that “as we prepare for increased activity in the tourism sector and to get our teachers and children back to face to face learning, we have also added members of these groups to our priority in keeping with the vaccine implementation programme”.

Persons 60 years and older are being asked to register using the online portal on the ministry’s website at www.moh.gov.jm or by calling the National Vaccination Hotline at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683).

Members of the other priority groups will be registered through their respective organisations.

Head of the X-Ray Department at the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine, Dr. Olivia Lee Daley (seated), is being given her coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.

As the ministry prepares to begin inoculations for members of this new priority group, they are advising that inoculations will also continue for healthcare workers, members of the Jamaica Defense and Constabulary Forces who have yet to be vaccinated.

In addition, the ministry is reminding members of the public who have already been vaccinated to continue observing all the infection prevention and control measures such as mask-wearing, maintaining a social distance of six feet or more, exercise frequent handwashing with soap and water, or use hand sanitiser.
