Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Government has a comprehensive support package for victims of the Gregory Park arson attack who with be assisted with back to school preparations and returning normality to their lives.

He noted that a seamless return to the education system for the community members is important, and the Government is committed to healing the emotional scars of victims and empowering them to rebuild their lives.

“We have to have the social intervention quickly to just ensure that our young people are stable and that they even from this very negative experience…have a more positive outlook on their circumstances,” said the prime minister in a release yesterday.

He added that he will also engage the member of parliament for the area, other government agencies, and the police to ensure unity among youths in the community.

The new school term is scheduled to begin on September 4.

“I’m obviously moved by what I’ve seen her and the recount of the incident by those who were victims. I don’t think that anyone could truly appreciate the terror that the people who live in this community would have felt and experienced,” said Holness.

He also reiterated his commitment to rebuild the 11 houses destroyed in the firebombing that left more than 40 homeless.

Reports are that on Saturday, August 12, gunmen set fire to homes in sections of Gregory Park. One man died, and others were injured in the attack.
