Grammy nominated dancehall artiste Spice joined Tamron Hall on her eponymous talk show on Wednesday (March 30), where she discussed her Grammy nomination and making history.
Spice, who marked her spot in history as the first Grammy nominated female dancehall artiste, received the nom in the Best Reggae Album category for her debut album, 10.
The singjay, who did the virtual interview from her home in Atlanta, reminisced on how her musical journey started, noting that it all began in church.

“As a little girl, I can remember I was going to Sunday school since I was four or five, and that’s where it started for me, in church,” she said.
The DJ shared that she never in her life imaged that she would make history.
“I could never imagine that I would be here. The first female to be a Grammy nominated [dancehall] artiste.
“I am the living testimony that, through prayer, hard work, consistency and dedication, that dreams can become a reality and that’s really what I enjoy about being who I am right now, because I stay true to myself,” she explained.
The Go Down Deh hitmaker went on to express that she was especially thankful that, despite her dark skin, she was able to succeed, adding that this is testimony for other dark-skinned girls.
“And especially the dark skin females who people tend to believe we can’t make it. I’m happy that I didn’t change who I am, I didn’t alter anything and they can see for themselves that, ‘Wow, Spice did it! She remained who she is and she did it’, so I’m really happy to know that you know, I’m the living testimony.”
Spice also performed her single, S.P.I.C.E, the first track from the album. It appeared, however, that the performance was pre-recorded.
The Grammy Awards is set to take place this Sunday (April 3), at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Spice, along with five other artistes – Sean Paul (Live N Livin), Jesse Royal (Royal), Gramps Morgan (Positive Vibration) , Etana (Pamoja) and SOJA (Beauty in the Silence) – have been nominated for Best Reggae Album.
