Bryan Levell stole the show at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial meet with a jaw-dropping meet record of 19.69 (-0.4 m/s) while Kishane Thompson won his 100m in a modest 9.95 on Tuesday in Budapest, Hungary.

There was no such luck in the women’s sprint, but Tina Clayton confirmed her dominance over Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, finishing second in the 100m in 10.99 (-0.4m/s).

The event was won by Josee Marie Ta Lou-Smith in 10.97, with Jackson third in 11.00 and Fraser-Pryce fourth in 11.07. Jamaica’s fourth runner, Krystal Sloley, was eighth in 11.28.

But the man of the moment, Bryan, showed that he is on another level, winning the 200m impressively, running his usual brilliant curve and moving away effortlessly to establish a personal best of 19.69.

Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa was second in 20.07. Jamaicans Adrian Kerr finished sixth with 20.52, and Michael Campbell in the eighth spot with 20.88.

It’s the third best time in the world, only behind the Americans Noah Lyles (19.63) and Kenny Bednarek (19.67) and puts him in the reckoning as a medal contender at the World Championship.

Kishane Thompson sped to a relatively slow 9.95 to win the 100m, ahead of Abdul Saminu of Ghana, who was second in 10.01, the same time as third-placed Akini Simbine of South Africa.

Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake was fourth in 10.04, Kadrian Goldson and Rohan Watson were sixth and seventh in 10.08 and 10.12, respectively.

In form, Ashanti Moore once again lowered her personal best of 22.40 to 22.31 in winning the 200m just ahead of Nigeria’s Favour Ofili in 22.31. Daryll Neita of Great Britain was third in 22.37.

National 400m champion Rusheen McDonald fell well short in achieving the qualifying mark of 44.85 after finishing fifth in 45.12. The race was won by Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga in 44.11. Jamaica’s Sean Bailey was eighth in 48.38.

Raymond Richards leapt 2.18m for seventh in the men’s high jump, while Carey McLeod was third in the long jump with 7.96m and Tajay Gayle was seventh with 7.86m.

Jamaica’s Ackelia Smith was second in the women’s long jump with 6.67m behind Claire Bryant of the USA with 6.71m.

Olympic champion Hansle Parchment, who failed to make the Jamaican team for the World Championship, once again got the better of the national champion Orlando Bennett.

Parchment was second in a season’s best 13.24, behind the American winner Cordell Tinch in 13.20. Bennett was fifth with 13.32.
