The Milwaukee Brewers are concerned for their players in Venezuela after a major US military operation in the country captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife on Saturday, January 3.

The baseball team says it currently has no information on the status of star outfielder Jackson Chourio, infielder Andruw Monasterio, and catcher Jeferson Quero.

Early Saturday, US forces launched a large-scale strike in Venezuela targeting alleged drug smuggling operations, and Maduro and his wife were taken into custody and reportedly flown out of the country.

The operation involved low-flying aircraft and helicopters from the Army’s elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, with at least seven explosions reported in Caracas.

The Venezuelan government described the attacks as causing damage across Caracas and surrounding states, condemning them as “very serious military aggression” and “imperialist actions”.
