Jamaica’s Olympic and World Championship 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson was beaten into third spot in the 60m dash at the Bauhaus Gala Indoor Meet in Sweden, while Jonielle Smith turned back the twin challenge of Tina and Tia Clayton in a close finish on Thursday.

Thompson, who won his opening 60m outdoor at the GC Foster College last Saturday, had to play third fiddle to the Great Britain duo of Romell Glave, who won in 6.51, and Jeremiah Azu, second with 6.54 seconds. Thompson was third with 6.56, and his MVP teammate Rohan Watson was seventh in 6.64.

Meanwhile, Smith, who kicked off her season with a close second to Tia Clayton last week, turned the tables in Sweden, winning in a record 7.12.

She had earlier run 7.17 to win her heats, while the Claytons were given a bye straight to the final.

Tina Clayton was second in 7.14, the same time as her sister Tia and was separated by thousands of seconds (7,138) to (7,140). Sweden’s Julia Henriksson was fourth in 7.31 seconds.

Smith had eyebrows raised when she, while anchoring Jamaica’s 4×100 relay team, chased and surprisingly closed the gap on American star Shacari Richardson at the 2025 World Championship.

That was the race that showed Smith would be a force to be reckoned with this season.
