As it marks its 14th anniversary this month, EduFocal Limited is commemorating over a decade of impact with the ambitious launch of its ‘100 Websites for 100 Schools’ initiative.

Since its founding in 2012, EduFocal has evolved from a niche social learning platform into a robust technology player.

Reflecting on this journey, CEO and founder Gordon Swaby emphasised that while education remains the company’s heart, technology is its core engine.

“EduFocal is a technology company,” Swaby stated in his anniversary message. “Education is where we started… but technology is what we do and what we are. We have spent fourteen years building platforms, processing data, and creating tools that hundreds of thousands of users depend on.”

Powering enterprise and national resilience: Trusted by public and private sectors

EduFocal’s 14-year legacy is anchored by its sophisticated Learning Management System (LMS) platforms that power some of the region’s largest and most critical entities. The company’s enterprise division has been instrumental in modernising workforce training and national education infrastructure.

Notable milestones include:

• Public sector leadership: A landmark partnership with the Transport Authority, where EduFocal’s technology facilitates mandatory online training and certification for thousands of public passenger vehicle (PPV) operators.

• National crisis response: During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, EduFocal worked closely with the Ministry of Education to deploy digital solutions aimed at mitigating learning loss, ensuring that students across Jamaica remained connected to their studies during school closures.

• Corporate excellence: Collaborative work with Sandals Resorts to deliver customised digital learning solutions that maintain the hospitality giant’s world-class service standards.

As the flagship project for its 14th year, EduFocal will provide 100 Jamaican schools with fully functional, modern websites.

This initiative addresses a critical bottleneck: the lack of a professional digital presence for many primary and secondary institutions.

This investment represents a significant contribution to the national education landscape, with the total value of the digital gift across all 100 schools estimated at approximately J$6 million. By removing the financial and technical barriers to entry, EduFocal is ensuring that even the most under-resourced schools can project a professional image and engage their stakeholders effectively.

Schools interested in benefiting from this milestone initiative are encouraged to register now at edufocal100.com to begin their digital transformation.

This digital expansion is complemented by the company’s ‘School-in-a-Box’ initiative, a ready-to-use, curriculum-aligned, and community-driven learning solution. Designed to support both academic development and Social Emotional Learning (SEL), each box equips a mentor with the tools needed to safely and effectively teach up to 15 children.

The impact of this initiative has been significantly amplified through a strategic partnership with the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation, led by Juliet Holness. This collaboration, further bolstered by a prestigious grant awarded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), reinforces EduFocal’s commitment to education continuity, dignity, and resilience. By creating these structured learning opportunities within local communities, EduFocal ensures that children have access to meaningful and supportive educational experiences, regardless of their circumstances.

Looking toward the future

Swaby acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with building and leading a public company, noting that while the journey has required dedication and perseverance, the mission remains unchanged.

“Fourteen years is a good foundation. What we build on top of it is going to be something worth watching,” Swaby noted.
