Jamaican track athlete and eight-time Olympic gold medalists, Veronica Campbell-Brown has officially retired from track and field.
After a career that she has dubbed, “a race well run” the Olympic gold medalist confirmed on Wednesday (June 23) via Instagram post that she would be taking off her spikes “never to put them on again”.

Using the moment to reflect on the journey she has had Campbell-Brown stated: “Through the grace of God, I have climbed from a small town in Trelawny, Jamaica up the ladder of success to become one of the most decorated women in the Olympic Games and World Championships history.”
Taking the chance to thank her creator for all her successes to date, Campbell-Brown thanked the Lord for blessing her with “talent, the will to stay focused… the requisite work ethics… (and) authentic and supportive people,” who served as “pillars of strength” as she “maneuvered the highs and lows” of her career.

In closing, she stated: “As I take off my spikes never to put them on again, this girl from Clarks Town walks away happy and contented with a race well run,” adding that she looks forward to what God has in store for this new chapter of her life.
