Absolut Skin, a groundbreaking dermatology-led skincare and health-tech platform, today announced its partnership with VisualDx, the global leader in diagnostic clinical decision support. The partnership will bring AI-powered skin condition identification and trusted medical resources to thousands of users across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean via the Absolut Skin mobile app.

Founded by Jamaican dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr Romario Thomas, Absolut Skin is designed for all skin types and tones, with a deep understanding of melanin-rich skin. The platform integrates AI skin scanning, personalised skin care product matching, teledermatology, and evidence-based routines — all in one seamless app.

According to Dr Thomas, the merger promotes efficiency for users to access quality dermatology-related information and treatment.

“Access to specialist dermatologic care across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean remains limited, with many people waiting months to see a dermatologist—or never seeing one at all. At the same time, misinformation and harmful do-it-yourself (DIY) skin treatments are on the rise,” the Absolut Skin CEO said.

He continued: “This collaboration with VisualDx brings clinical-grade intelligence directly to users’ smartphones, empowering them to better understand and manage their skin concerns early. It bridges the gap between clinical dermatology and consumer wellness, while still ensuring expert care is just a few taps away through our telemedicine platform.”

In a time when skin conditions have started to become more common in Jamaica, Dr Thomas underscored the timeliness of the merger to address this issue. 

“Skin issues are far more common than most people realise. In Jamaica, we see a growing number of cases related to acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, and eczema—especially among young adults and women. There’s also a troubling rise in complications from bleaching, misuse of over-the-counter steroid creams, and delayed treatment of serious conditions like melanoma. In underserved areas, poor access to specialist care means many people turn to social media influencers or unregulated products for help. This often worsens the problem and leads to long-term skin damage. That’s why solutions like Absolut Skin— grounded in medical expertise—are urgently needed,” he reasoned.

The Absolut Skin application will be available for free download on iOS and Android during the upcoming beta period. More advanced AI features will be available through affordable Silver and Gold membership plans, while all beta testers get two months of premium access completely free.

There will be a full rollout and product availability beginning in Jamaica in the first quarter of 2026. Expansion into additional Caribbean territories and the US is planned for 2026.
