An all-island vaccination blitz will begin on Friday (April 9) and run through to Tuesday (April 13) with the aim of inoculating some 50,000 people, says Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton.

Tufton made the announcement during Thursday’s (April 8) COVID Conversations, while indicating that vaccination priority groupings have now been extended to include persons 60 years and older, staff members from the Department of Correctional Services, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Jamaica Customs, tourism workers, teachers, and other employees of educational institutions.

An extension, he said, has been made possible thanks to the 75,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, courtesy of the African Medical Support Platform, that arrived in the island late Thursday afternoon.

Persons who fall within the priority groupings, who wish to be vaccinated during the blitz this weekend, may register for their appointments by calling the National Vaccination Hotline at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683) or online on the ministry’s website, www.moh.gov.jm.

A total of 44 vaccination sites are being set up across the length and breadth of the country and each site will operate between the hours of 9 am through to 4 pm, Friday to Tuesday.

As of April 7, a total of 47,408 persons were inoculated, representing a 96 per cent achievement of the 47,650 one-month target.
