Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time since the tragic crash that claimed the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, admitting the loss has weighed heavily on him.
The former heavyweight champion shared his thoughts on social media on Thursday, thanking everyone who sent love and support in memory of the two men, whom he described as extraordinary figures in his life. Joshua reflected on how ordinary moments with them now feel deeply precious, saying he often finds himself thinking about the jokes and casual walks they once shared.
He acknowledged the pain has been difficult to carry, while noting that the grief facing their parents is far greater. Joshua added that his faith has helped him cope, expressing hope that God understands their hearts and offers them mercy.
Ghami and Ayodele died on December 29, 2025, when the Lexus SUV they were travelling in with Joshua collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria. Joshua escaped with minor injuries.
The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has reportedly been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous and careless driving and operating a vehicle without a valid license. Memorial services for both men were held earlier this week, with Joshua present to pay his respects. In the days since the crash, speculation about his boxing future has grown, though he has not commented on whether the tragedy will affect his career.
