The sequel to Marvel’s billion-dollar blockbuster Black Panther, set to be released in November 2022, is facing yet another setback with new delays in shooting.

Filming, which halted last November due to actress Letitia Wright’s (Shuri) on-set injuries, resumed earlier this month in Atlanta, Georgia, but was soon discontinued after a number of cast and crew members tested positive for COVID-19, including actress Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in the film.

It is not yet known for how long Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be paused, but there are reports that suggest filming could resume as early as next week.

This represents the latest obstacle the Black Panther franchise has faced. Outside of the unfortunate death of Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular character in the 2018 superhero film, there were also conflicting reports of Wright expressing anti-vaccination views on the film’s set, hindering her return.

Wright, who was at one point rumoured to be taking the lead role in the sequel, ultimately returned and filming was once again under way.

It has also been said that Winston Duke, who plays the character M’Baku, like Wright, will be receiving an expanded role which is accompanied by an increase in salary.

Understandably, the camp has been tight lipped about the plot of the upcoming movie.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which has just about a month left of shooting, is expected to hit theatres on November 11.

Analysts have suggested that some post production, that would have normally been done after filming wraps, can be started during the current break from shooting to ensure the movie is completed on time and its release date won’t have to be pushed back.
