As Jamaica’s fourth phase of the single-use plastics ban takes full effect on January 9, prohibiting the distribution and use of plastic food containers, Boxpert Limited is ready to lead the charge in providing sustainable packaging solutions to meet the growing demands of local businesses.

Launched in 2024, Boxpert is a proudly Jamaican company specializing in the production and printing of paperboard and kraft paper packaging. Since its inception, the company has been positioned as a key player in advancing eco-friendly alternatives, offering solutions tailored to the food service, courier, and manufacturing sectors. “Sustainability has been at the core of our operations from the very beginning,” shared Vaughn Hutchinson, CFO of Boxpert Limited.

“We anticipated the shift towards environmentally conscious practices and built our business model around providing high-quality, customizable packaging that supports Jamaica’s vision for a plastic-free future. “With its state-of-the-art facility and a commitment to innovation, Boxpert ensures that businesses of all sizes can access locally manufactured, versatile, durable, and biodegradable packaging options.

By producing products domestically, the company reduces reliance on imports and supports local economic growth while helping businesses transition seamlessly away from plastic. Jamaica’s journey towards eliminating single-use plastics began in 2019, with bans on plastic bags, straws, and Styrofoam.

The latest restriction was a significant step in reducing the nation’s environmental footprint. “We understand the challenges businesses face in adapting to new regulations, and we are here to help,” Hutchinson continued. “Our team is dedicated to working hand-in-hand with our clients to deliver innovative solutions that not only comply with the law but also enhance their sustainability goals.”

He added: “Our company currently manufactures lunch containers in 1400ml,1500ml and 750ml with variations including single and double compartments. This represents not only versatility in the product line but innovation as well. We are more than equipped to supply the Jamaican market, making up any shortfall created by the ban.”
