The Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) is reporting that the voting process has been largely smooth in today’s by-elections in St Andrew North Western, Trelawny Southern, and the electoral divisions of Aenon Town and Morant Bay.

However, the election watchdog has confirmed two reports of voter intimidation and disruptions to the voting process in the Aenon Town Division. It added that the authorities have since responded.

Meanwhile, CAFFE has noted that voter turnout for the parliamentary by-elections has been slow, although turnout for the Parish Council by-elections has been significantly higher. The Aenon Town Division has reported the highest turnout so far.

CAFFE also stated that its team of indoor monitors and roving observers will continue to monitor the by-elections for the remainder of the day.

Both indoor and roving observers were deployed by CAFFE to oversee the conduct of today’s two parliamentary by-elections and two Parish Council Division by-elections.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is reporting that voter turnout for the by-elections in Morant Bay, Aenon Town, Trelawny Southern, and St Andrew North Western ranged from 4.91 per cent to 39.88 per cent up to 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Up to that time, turnout was 27.78 per cent in the Morant Bay Division, 39.88 per cent in the Aenon Town Division, 4.91 per cent in the St. Andrew North Western constituency, and 18.25 per cent in the Trelawny Southern constituency.
