Central St Mary rang in the New Year in grand style as many persons gathered at Paggee Beach for the Annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration, hosted by Member of Parliament Omar Newell in partnership with the Pagee Fishermen’s Group.
The highly anticipated community event drew patrons from across the parish and beyond, with attendees travelling from as far as Linstead to be part of the festivities.
Families, residents, and visitors came together for an evening filled with live entertainment, community spirit, and dazzling firework displays that lit up the Port Maria coastline at midnight.
A major highlight of the night was a performance by St Mary’s very own Yaksta, whose appearance energised the crowd and reinforced the event’s focus on celebrating local talent and culture.

Speaking at the event, MP Omar Newell expressed his gratitude and pride in delivering a moment of joy for the constituency.
“As a new Member of Parliament, it means a lot to me to bring joy to the people of Central St Mary in a way that remains rooted in community,” Newell said. “Partnering with the Pagee Fishermen’s Group allows us to celebrate together while showcasing the strength, culture, and importance of this constituency. Central St Mary is a big deal, and the way we started 2026 shows rest of Jamaica exactly that.”
The partnership with the Pagee Fishermen’s Group was central to the success of the event, underscoring a shared commitment to community-led initiatives and inclusive celebrations that benefit residents and local stakeholders.

The Annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration continues to grow each year, solidifying its place as one of St Mary’s most anticipated community events and reinforcing Central St Mary’s presence on Jamaica’s cultural calendar.
