Detainee dies after falling ill at May Pen police lock-up

An investigation is underway into the death of a detainee who was in custody at a police lock-up in Clarendon.

The deceased has been identified as Collintine Sutherland, 58, of Crofts Hill, in the parish.

Reports are that about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sutherland was at the May Pen police lockup when he complained of feeling ill.

He was taken to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched an investigation into the matter.
