The organizers of the Dream Weekend event have come under heavy criticism, after a video from one of their parties showed patrons not adhering to COVID-19 prevention protocols.
In a short video which has been making the rounds on social media platforms, legendary Jamaican deejay Beenie Man and fellow artiste Dexta Daps are seen freestyling on stage.
Also visible in the clip is a largely maskless, tight-knit crowd taking in the action.
The clip originally posted by Beenie Man to his Instagram feed to show off his lyrical prowess, was later shared to other platforms, namely Twitter and Facebook, where it caught intense heat for the breach of COVID-19 prevention protocols.
While some online users did acknowledge the artiste’s lyricism, others missed it entirely, instead focusing in on the tightly packed crowd.
“Social distancing: zero,” tweeted popular blogger Emma Lewis who retweeted a video of the performance.
“Not a mask in sight in that sardine can,” added another.
In addition, online users also slammed the patrons for not wearing masks at the event, noting that it was the bare minimum that could have been done to help keep patrons safe.
However, the views across social media were varied, with some users arguing that many of the patrons were vaccinated and all were tested prior to entry into the event.
“Does it matter, they mostly vaccinated,“ said one Facebook user.
“Just because you vaccinated nuh mean nothing, yuh nuh see Delta… yuh a fool, ” clapped –back another.
Prior to the start of the party weekend, Chairman of Dream Entertainment, Kamal Bankay said the safety, health and security of the patrons was of the utmost importance.
“We are implementing a series of measures from the redemption of bands to access to the events and general movement at and after events. First off, patrons are required to present a negative COVID-19 test (dated within 48 hours of the redemption) or proof of full vaccination in order to enter our events,” Bankay explained, as he outlined prevention protocols implemented by the organizers to ensure the safety of party patrons.
“Dream Entertainment understands the great responsibility we have to maintain the safety of all patrons as such everyone must wear a mask unless they’re eating or drinking. We will have a number of covid marshalls roaming the grounds to ensure full compliance. The setup of the events also takes into consideration social distancing, ” added Banky.
