No stranger to the Sumfest stage, dancehall artiste D’Yani, elated for the physical comeback of Reggae Sumfest, says patrons can expect “excitement, vibes and energy” from his set.
Making his debut Sumfest performance back in 2018, the artiste told Our Today it was his first time performing on such a major platform.
Describing his 2018 experience as an opportunity to grow as a performer, the artiste, who returned to a virtual stage in 2020 where he performed alongside Konshens, noted that his on-stage presence increased significantly.
Now with more years of experience coupled with an extended catalogue, D’Yani explained how pleased he is to share the stage on July 23 with several other stars, some of whom he said were his inspiration.
Set to take the stage on night two of the festival, the artiste said: “After COVID-19, mi elated, mi happy I’m looking forward to it… . We share the stage with some great artistes such as, you know… Beres Hammond, Dexta Daps, Jada Kingdom and the whole works so you know is a massive look to me, night of the stars and I’m one a them.”
Along with excitement, vibes and energy, the dancehall artiste told Our Today that patrons can also expect “something different”.
“Mi a bring my energy, my personality to the stage, cuz most people nuh really get fi see me perform because, you know, with COVID-19 and the whole world being locked down and ting, we nuh really get fi express. Just [looking] forward to express the music, have fun and just live.”
With rehearsals already a month under way, the Wolmerian who says he has been working assiduously, noted that, as they continue, more tweaks and adjustments will be made.
“It has been going good, I can’t complain. But, as you know, with music… we still have more tweaks and more work to do,” he said.
Admitting to not yet being a master at the game, the star noted that he continues to discover new traits and talents.
“Mi nuh master the game as yet and I’m still learning myself and I’m still learning my voice and my craft… . I’m in a good space mentally as well as physically and vocally, but we ready man. We ready fi work,” he explained.
Describing himself as humble, simple, spontaneous and creative, the rising star regarded some of dancehall’s elite as his inspiration – Gregory Isaacs, Ken Boothe, Konshens, Vybz Kartel, Dennis Brown, Mavado and Aidonia.
Thanking his fans for their continued support, D’Yani shared that more music, visuals and upcoming projects are on the way.
