South Africa were bowled out for 298 at the end of the first session on day two of the second Betway Test against the West Indies at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St Lucia today (June 19).

Resuming from their overnight score of 218 for 5, South Africa lost their last five wickets for 80 runs from 30.4 overs as the West Indies bowling attack maintained their discipline and accuracy that helped them restrict the visitors on Friday.

Kyle Mayers was arguably the best of the West Indies bowlers taking 3-28, including the prized wicket of Quinton de Kock who made 96. The wicketkeeper-batsman had threatened to score his second century of the series following on his unbeaten 141 in the first Test.

However, after early resistance this morning when de Kock and Mulder took the score to 239, Mulder lost his wicket to Roach for 8.

De Kock found himself another useful partner in Keshav Maharaj with whom he took the score to 275 when the latter was caught behind for 12 from a Jason Holder delivery. De Kock fell at the same score as the batting fell away before the last-wicket stand between Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, who made one before he became Roach’s third victim.

The Barbadian seamer finished with 3-45 while Shannon Gabriel marked his return to the side with 2-65.  Holder and Jayden Seales each took one wicket.
