Recording artiste Latoya Jackson, popularly known as Latty J, became a household name back in 2011 when she warmed the hearts of many Jamaicans as a contestant on Digicel Rising Stars.

Even though her fans were captivated by her personality and powerful vocals, the artiste failed to make it into the top 6 but, luckily, she was brought back as the producer’s pick.

At the end of the competition, Latty J walked away with the runner-up spot in the local talent competition.

Since the competition, she has continued to do music and has produced several tracks over the years.

Back in 2014, the artiste was featured on Vegas’ album, Reggae Euphoria, with the hit track Who Rule.

Our Today caught up with the artiste and here are five things you might not have known about Latty J.

1. Always reaching for the stars

While Latty has a career in music, the artiste is always on the move to accomplish all her dreams. She recently got certified in health care and is now a certified allied health care assistant.

2. Road trip anyone?

Latty is always up for a road trip and her favourite place to visit happens to be the beautiful parish of Portland.

3. Latty the Scholar

The artiste is a past student of the Papine High School, where she was the head girl. Here’s a bonus, her nickname throughout high school was ‘Nuggie’.

4. She’s a girly girl

Though you may happen to see her mostly in pants, Latty is actually a girly girl at heart and enjoys flaunting a cute dress. “It just feels more girly, and I like that,” she told Our Today.

5. Latty can cook!

She wasn’t acting in the video with Mr Vegas. Latty knows her way around the kitchen, and, in fact, the very first meal she prepared was mackerel and rice, after which she stepped up her game to bigger and better meals.

Bonus: Latty wants Jamaica to know that she is a real down to earth girl!
